ITE 130 Assignment 1

Assignment 1, Read chapter 1 and blog about 3 facts learned.

Fact 1:  Addresses and the web, a computer has a unique I.D. number called an IP( Internet Protocol) address. Most IP addresses are (IPv4) which is in dotted decimal notation and looks like this (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) but there are only 4.2 billion possible addresses. So in 1997 the IETF approved (IPv6) for more address in the future. Most people don't use IP addresses to locate a website. They  use a domain name and the program that links the IP address to the domain name is called the DNS( domain name system), the computer that links the two is called the domain name server.

Fact 2: Web pages and browsers, are connected by using a URL( Uniform Resource Locator). What is a URL? It's a four part scheme for telling the computer where to look and what to do. For example take my website: http://www.jameslenzen.com/home/skills/.html. The http:// is called the transfer protocol there are others like ftp:// (file transfer protocol), and telenet:// (telenet protocol). But the most common are http:// and https:// for the web. The second part of the scheme is the domain name in the example it's www.jameslenzen.com. the third part is pathname ex./sklills/ and finally the fourth part is the file name. ex .html

Fact 3 : History and Cookies in the Browsers, computer can save passwords and what you searched for but you can turn if off it you want, most programs want you to allow it. It all depends on what your doing, how the computer is used, how good is your antivirus software, and etc..
